EUonQoL - Quality of Life in Oncology

The four-year European Union research project EUonQoL seeks to develop, pilot, and validate a Kit that can be utilized as a benchmarker measure to assess cancer patients' quality of life (QoL) and contribute to the EU's Mission on Cancer.

The main goal of the Quality of Life in Oncology (EUonQoL) project is to develop a novel assessment tool (EUonQoL-Kit) to evaluate the quality of life (QoL) among patients with cancer and survivors (i.e., history of cancer) on an aggregated level.

Unlike existing and similar QoL assessments in Europe, the EUonQoL-Kit distinguishes itself by:

  1. Being developed through a co-creation process
  2. Being adjusted to Europeans' diverse cultures, languages, and backgrounds
  3. Offering comparability across European countries

The co-creation approach incorporates elements of people-centricity, ensuring that the evaluation questions capture what people with a history of cancer consider relevant for assessing their QoL. The adjustment for the variances among Europeans and the European healthcare systems allows the EUonQoL-Kit to be pan-Europeanly applied as a standardized benchmark tool for assessing aggregated QoL data among individuals with a history of cancer. This type of data is necessary for accurate health monitoring, which opens up the possibility of applying correct policy strategies that align with Europe's Beating Cancer Plan and the Mission on Cancer.

While a substantial part of the EUonQoL project is dedicated to developing and validating the EUonQoL-Kit, an equally essential part is responsible for implementing the EUonQoL-Kit into the European healthcare system with straightforward usability. Oslo University Hospital (OUS) is participating in the project (leading WP8 on Implementation and Exploitation work package) and will create an implementation guideline on how the EUonQoL-Kit can be both integrated and utilized across Europe.
