Every two years, the world's largest cancer associations, the British "Cancer Research UK" and the American "National Cancer Institute" launch the "Cancer Grand Challenges" competition. In 2023, 178 research teams from around the world, with thousands of researchers behind them, sent in their very best ideas.
In London this month, 5 winners were chosen. For the first time, a researcher from the Nordics was part of one of the winning teams, namely Professor Johanna Olweus. In her team are world-class researchers in fields such as biotechnology, genetics and artificial intelligence. Together, they now receive NOK 260 million to solve one of cancer research's biggest challenges.
Olweus is Professor and head of the Section for Cancer Immunology at the Institute for Cancer Research at the Cancer Clinic at Oslo University Hospital.
In this short film, Johanna describes her project - and what she hopes will be the outcome of this research after a few years.
