Mitral valve prolapse/ Mitral annular disjunction
Mitral valve prolapse (MVP) is a relatively frequent valve disorder, affecting 2-4% of the general population. In most cases, the prognosis for individuals with this condition is good. However, a subset of patients with MVP are at risk of sudden cardiac death. The specific mechanisms underlying the development of arrhythmias in these individuals remain largely unknown. Mitral annular disjunction (MAD) is one of the arrhythmogenic risk factors. The genetic background of both MVP and MAD is still largely unknown and efficient therapeutic strategies are missing.
The objectives of ProCardio’s research are to uncover the etiology and mechanisms of arrhythmias in patients with MVP, including using simulation models, in order to identify potential therapeutic targets, as well as developing automatic MVP/MAD detection software.
